Sacrifice

Sacrificial rites differ from group to group, but generally involve cutting an animal’s throat, a shared eating of the flesh and an offering of the blood to the spirits.

Cottoning on

Burkina is often dismissed as an unlucky country, because of its of mineral or energy wealth. Unlike neighbours Sierra Leone, Liberia, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria, it has no diamonds, no oil, and only a thin sliver of gold, although this remains massively underexploited.
Cotton is the mainstay of the economy. Introduced by the French in the early 20th century in an attempt to forge some large-scale industry, its earns about 60-70% of export earning and contributes 30% of the total GDP, providing 3.5m people with some means of income. Almost all the cotton produced is exported, mostly to Asia, and production is on the rise.d0111916_1382820.jpg
