Soumbala is the fermented seeds of African loust bean tree. It is sold as little black boll. The smell is pungent but the taste is mild. It has rich protein, iron, calcium and Vitamin B. It's pretty much the original African stock cube, and is used to add flavor to dishes, although it's something of an acquired taste.
