The north of Burkina Faso is dotted with mining operations. Like the wild west more than a century ago, impromptu settlements spring up the moment there is evidence of gold in the area.
High on the sun-baked, pock-market hills, golden-hued mud spills out across the land as a men. Women and small children work in what ever way they can to coax out enough tiny specks of gold to make it count.
